Yesterday we came across a Reddit post which broke my heart but it’s one that I MUST share.
Emma Mertens is a 7-year-old girl from Wisconsin and is currently fighting a very rare and inoperable brain tumor called DIPG. To comfort her she’s asking for letters from dogs.
As soon as I got home from work yesterday, I got to writing our letter and sent it to her.
The reason why I wanted to write about it on our blog is because ANYONE can send a letter from their dog. Whether that’s an email or a hand written letter – the more photos and videos you attached the better!
Her details are:
PO Box 230
Hartland, WI 53029
or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org
So please, if you’re reading this, please send Emma a letter and comfort the most remarkable 7-year-old I’ve ever heard of.
And if you’re struggling of what to say, this is what we sent…
I wanted to introduce myself, I’m King Woody but my friends called me Woody. You can call me Woody because I think we are going to be the best of friends.
My hoomans are big fans of Toy Story, that’s where they got my name from. They often dress me up in silly outfits and think it’s hilarious. I go along with it for one thing only – THE TREATS!! They couldn’t resist dressing me up as Woody and I think I pulled it off pretty well – what do you think?
So what’s your superpower? Want to hear mine? I have the power to melt hearts. I don’t have to try hard, it’s one of those superpowers that you’re born with. You know what I mean, right?
Talking of powers and magic I’m a HUGE Harry Potter fan. Do you like Harry Potter? If I got the chance to go to Dogwarts, I would be in Gryffindog because of my traits: bravery, nerve, courage, chivalry and a little bit of daring thrown in for good measure. What house would you be in? Actually, I already know the answer to that… I bet you would be in Gryffindog too because you’re the bravest 7-year old I’ve EVER heard of!
Aside from digging (and ruining my hoomans garden – but we won’t go into that today) my second favourite hobby is stealing shoes and slippers and parading them around the house feeling uber smug/proud of myself. I can’t contain my excitement or tail for that matter and just wait for a hooman to come and take it off me. They thought it would stop me if they bought me my own slipper. Yes, you read that right, one slipper. ONE!!! I know, don’t they know I have 4 paws?! This was my face when I received my (one) slipper…
I’m becoming quite the master of balancing my toys on my head, it’s a skill that not every doggo holds but those that do take it very very seriously.
My hooman Mom says that I am her little ray of sunshine and that all of her worries disappear when I’m around. So Emma, I hope your worries have vanished since reading my letter. Just know that if I could get on a plane to come to you, I would. But I don’t have any thumbs to get online to buy a plane ticket – darn it!
So instead I’m sending you all the love and sloppy kisses all the way from England.
Your soon to be best friend,
All you need is a love... and a dog!
